Lloyd, C., King, R., & Chenoweth, L. (2002). Social work, stress and burnout: A review. Journal of mental health, 11(3), 255-265.
This article relies on extensive research of social workers and their emotional exhaustion while working with patients. The author of the article is Lloyd King and he goes in depth with his study on the emotional aspects of a social worker and how they have an effect on a team. He explains how a social worker has to get deeply involved with their clients so they can better able to communicate with them and develop trust. However, this can build emotional stress on the social worker because of how depressing some of the clients living situation can be. "Social workers have previously been identified
as being at risk of experiencing stress
and burnout" (King, 2002: 255) This is an important quote because it helps us to identify the problems when working with a social worker and how a team should understand the difficulty of dealing with this type of problem. The author uses data that has been analyzed throughout the years to give a better explanation of the emotional difficulties that a social worker goes through.
